EA FC 26 The World's Game Update: New 48-Team Tournament + Everything That Changed

EA FC 26's biggest update of the summer just landed. "The World's Game Update" brings a brand-new 48-team international tournament, a targeted gameplay balance pass, and some genuinely useful Ultimate Team additions — including the one feature Evo players have wanted for years. Here's everything that changed.
A new 48-team international tournament
The headline is a fresh international tournament mode that launched on June 4, built around the summer's World Cup buzz. It features 53 fully licensed national teams — 41 of them in action over the summer — and runs a full tournament format: three group games, with the top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams advancing into the knockouts, all the way to the final. If you've ever wanted to win a World Cup with your nation, this is the mode for it.
Gameplay: the balance changes that matter
This is a targeted balance pass rather than a sweeping overhaul. The key tweaks:
- Bruiser PlayStyle had its shoulder-challenge boosts reduced, with improved challenge outcomes — so raw strength reflects more fairly in physical duels instead of bullying everyone off the ball.
- Intercept PlayStyle: players with a 90+ Interceptions attribute now get the same interception animations as players who actually have the PlayStyle. Defensively-minded cards just quietly got better.
- Team Press tactic: AI pressure and marking tightness in your defensive half were reduced — a direct nerf aimed at discouraging the constant-pressing meta.
If you build around the meta, those PlayStyle changes are worth factoring into your tactics and your next signings.
Ultimate Team: the big one — you can undo Evos
This is the standout. Evo Undo lets you "roll back and fully reset Evolutions in your Club" — and if you'd evolved an originally tradable player, they return to tradable. No more being scared to experiment with an Evolution in case you waste it: you can now reset and try a different card entirely.
Alongside it:
- PlayStyles Lab — for select Festival of Football items, you can choose your preferred PlayStyles and PlayStyles+, tailoring a card to exactly how you play.
- Penalty Shootouts event — a limited-time mode in FUT and Kick-Off from June 28.
- Token rewards — up to 1,000 tokens earnable each week, plus a 93-rated Festival of Football ICON Pelé just for logging in during the event.
What it means for you
If you play Ultimate Team, the Evo reset alone changes how you should approach Evolutions — experiment freely now. If you're a defensive player, the Intercept buff and the Team Press nerf reward smart positioning over spam-pressing. And whatever you play, the new international tournament is a fresh reason to jump back in this summer.
