EA FC 26 Career Mode: New Features + Best Teams to Start

EA FC 26's Career Mode is the most alive the mode has felt in years — rival managers now move between clubs, unexpected events derail your season, and you can finally bring ICONs into a modern save. Whether you want a relaxed first season or a proper rebuild, here's what's new and the best teams to start with.

What's new in FC 26 Career Mode

EA leaned hard into making management feel unpredictable this year. The headline additions:

  • Manager Live Challenges. Real-world scenarios and alternative storylines — "from surviving 5 matches to claiming an historic treble" — that earn you Season Points, Vanity, and ICONs and Heroes to use in your club.
  • An active Manager Market. For the first time, rival managers move between clubs, and "team tactics transform over time as new managers take the helm." Every season plays out differently.
  • Unexpected Events. Short- and long-term curveballs "from an injured back line to a club on the brink of financial collapse" that you have to manage around.
  • ICONs & Heroes in Career. Earn legends through Live Challenges and field them in your modern-day squad.
  • The Authentic preset. A new gameplay option with "physics-based rebounds, blocks, and bounces" for more grounded, unpredictable matches.

Best teams to start with

Pick the challenge you're after — here are the saves worth starting.

Easy: hit the ground running

Bayern Munich is the comfortable pick: a stacked squad (Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise) and a big transfer budget. You'll win early, then chase a dynasty.

Medium: a real project, with money to spend

Tottenham (a strong budget north of £100m) and Manchester United (the biggest budget here, around £150m) both back you financially — but United are very much a club in disrepair, so there's plenty of squad-fixing to keep it interesting.

Hard: the proper rebuild

Crystal Palace start with one of the smallest budgets of any English club (around £1m) and low expectations — a genuine long-term grind. Lyon (roughly £15m) need a near-total overhaul, with wonderkid Malick Fofana as your building block.

Tips to get the most out of your save

  • Use the new systems. Lean into Manager Live Challenges early — Season Points and ICON rewards are the fastest way to add real quality.
  • Scout young. The best long-term value is always a cheap wonderkid you develop yourself, not an expensive finished player.
  • Try the Authentic preset. If matches feel too arcadey, it makes results far more believable.
  • Set realistic board expectations. Overpromising on a rebuild is the quickest way to get yourself sacked.

The bottom line

FC 26's Career Mode finally feels unpredictable — the Manager Market and Unexpected Events mean no two seasons are the same. Pick a club that matches the challenge you want, milk the Live Challenges for ICONs, and build through wonderkids. Dialling in your formation and tactics matters just as much here as it does online.
