EA FC 26 SBCs: How They Work + Which Are Actually Worth Your Coins

Squad Building Challenges are the best way to upgrade your EA FC 26 Ultimate Team without spending real money, but only if you do the right ones. Done carelessly, they quietly drain your coins on cards you never needed. This guide covers how SBCs actually work, the one calculation we use to decide if any SBC is worth it, and which to do, which to skip, and why, with real June 2026 costs.

How SBCs work

An SBC asks you to build a squad that meets set requirements: a minimum team rating, a chemistry target, a specific league, nation or club, or a number of special cards. You fill it from your club, your SBC Storage, or the transfer market. When you submit, those cards are consumed and you get the reward, usually a pack or a specific player you often cannot get any other way. One rule overrides everything: submissions are final. EA support cannot restore a submitted squad, so check twice before you confirm.

The one calculation that decides if an SBC is worth it

Every "should I do this?" comes down to a single comparison: the fodder cost to complete versus what the reward is actually worth to you. Work it out in three quick steps:

  1. Price the fodder. Add up what the players you still need to buy will cost on the market right now. Fodder already sitting in your club is effectively free. The in-game "Buy" suggestions and live trackers like FUTBIN show a current cheapest-solution price.
  2. Value the reward. A tradeable card is worth its market price. A pack is worth its expected value, the average coins of what it usually contains, not the walkout you are hoping for. An untradeable player is worth only what they add to your team.
  3. Check the alternative. Could you just buy the same card for less? Could a free Evolution turn a card you already own into something close? If yes, the SBC loses.

If the fodder cost lands clearly below the reward's real value, do it. If it is close or above, walk away. That single habit is the difference between SBCs funding your club and SBCs bleeding it.

Which SBCs are (almost) always worth doing

Two categories beat the market often enough that we complete them on sight:

  • Repeatable Upgrade SBCs are the workhorses. The 77+, 85+ and 86+ Upgrade SBCs take low-value fodder and the duplicates you are already sitting on and hand back a guaranteed higher-rated pack. As a concrete example, an 86+ Upgrade SBC in June 2026 costs roughly 22,000 to 23,000 coins in 86-rated fodder and returns a pack of guaranteed 86+ players, which is the cheapest reliable way to build the 88 and 89 fodder that premium SBCs demand. Because they repeat and eat your duplicates, the real cost is far lower than the sticker price.
  • Foundations and daily Upgrade SBCs are cheap (roughly 2,000 to 9,000 coins) and pay steady rewards while teaching you the chemistry system. Knock them out whenever you have spare fodder lying around.

How to judge a Player SBC

The headline Player SBCs, the ones rewarding a specific special card, are where most coins get wasted. Run every one through the calculation above:

  • Do it when the card is untradeable and genuinely upgrades your starting XI, or when it is tradeable and the fodder cost sits clearly below its market price.
  • Skip it when you could buy the same card (or a near-equal one) for less, when a free Evolution gets you most of the way there, or when you are only tempted by fear of missing out. A meta gold card or a smart Evolution routinely beats an overpriced Player SBC.

Live, time-limited Player SBCs rotate constantly, so their exact costs date fast. We track the current ones with cheapest solutions and a plain do-or-skip verdict in our SBC section, but the math above lets you judge any of them yourself the moment they drop.

Coin-saving tips that move the needle

  • Check your club first. Use the Club tab before you touch the market; you often already own the fodder, especially for Foundations and Upgrades.
  • Buy mid-week. Prices follow a weekly rhythm. Wednesday to Friday is usually cheapest, while weekend demand inflates everything.
  • Do time-limited SBCs early. Fodder prices spike as an SBC nears expiry, so completing early genuinely costs less.
  • Hoard your duplicates. Those untradeable dupes from packs are exactly what the 85+ and 86+ Upgrades want, turning dead weight into usable fodder.

The bottom line

SBCs are free squad-building gold when you stay disciplined: always run the repeatable Upgrades, do the cheap Foundations, and put every Player SBC through the fodder-cost-versus-value test before you commit a single card. Pair them with whatever is live on the promo calendar and you will keep upgrading your Ultimate Team without ever opening your wallet.

How we evaluate: every verdict here uses the fodder-cost-versus-reward-value method above, cross-checked against live cheapest-solution prices on FUTBIN and FUT.GG. Costs verified June 2026; FUT prices move daily, so treat specific figures as a snapshot rather than a fixed price.
